My Special Thanksgiving

Reflecting on Thanksgiving 2017

Said in the words and tone of Gloria in the movie Waiting to Exhale “I cooked, you know I cooked.” After a time of not cooking (well, not cooking family dinners… since I mostly live on grilled salmon and salad), I cooked the entire Thanksgiving Day meal! I guess cooking is like riding a bike, once you know how; it all comes back to you.

I was asked “how did you make the stuffing, it was so good?” Just a note: some call it dressing and others call it stuffing. Sluffing is what you stuff the turkey with or bake separately in a pan; dressing is the condiment that is poured on salad. Anyway, the stuffing was a huge success, especially with the gravy! The cornbread and macaroni and cheese were good too. At one point my granddaughter Danielle asked me “Is this the only Mac & Cheese because it’s almost gone! I reassured her that there was another pan.

And then there were the greens, OMG! Yes, they were good. Collards, Kale and Mustard greens mixed and seasoned with smoked turkey! Yummy. Candied Yams, potato salad, deviled Eggs (heavenly, deviled eggs). The turkey and ham was picture perfect, tasty and juicy. My friend Camilla baked several sweet potato pies, the perfect desert.

The next day was my daughter’s birthday so I baked a cake and some brownies. I haven’t been in the kitchen for this long in years and I admit it was fun and exhausting. This Thanksgiving was special, I’m glad that I took the time away from my work to enjoy my family.

I will definitely do double time on the treadmill this week!
